With Roslyn Microsoft has released the compiler API to the open source community. It is obvious to think that the developer productivity tools would take advantage of having access to .NET compiler code base to make the tool better. One of the most used .NET developer productivity tool is ReSharper from jetbrains.com. In a recent post to jetbrain’s Blog it has been revealed that Jet Brains does not intend to use Roslyn to build a next generation ReSharper.
The two main reasons stated are :
- It would take a mammoth effort to rewrite, test and stabilize a new ReSharper codebase.
- Many things that ReSharper does cannot be supported with Roslyn.
